What is ‘the choice’ I have to make as part of the Remedy?

On 1st October 2023, MPS automatically placed all retired police officers affected by the McCloud Pension Remedy back into their old pension schemes for the period 1st April 2015 – 31st March 2022.

  • You will need to make a choice about whether to remain in your old scheme (PPS 87/NPPS 06) or to move back into the new (PPS 15) scheme for the years between 2015 and 2022. This is called ‘Immediate Choice (IC).
  • Note: Going ‘back’ into your old scheme might mean your contributions (that’s money you paid in) and your tax position for these years will change.

When do I have to make my choice?

  • Everyone will receive their Remedy Packs by 31st March 2025. This deadline is set by legislation.
  • As soon as you receive your ‘Remedy Pack’ you have up to 12-months to make your choice.
  • Retired Officers are being prioritised, so we are currently working on the detailed calculations you will need to make the right decision for you.
  • Pension Administrators have been given until the end of March 2025 to complete the complex work needed to deliver Remedy to ensure all retired officers receive the correct pension calculations they need to make their decisions.

What do I need to do?

  • Let us have your up-to-date personal email address. It's the quickest and easiest way for us to keep in touch with you.
  • We will be sending out Remedy Packs to all retired MPS officers over the next 12 months

If you retired before 2015, you do not need to do anything and your pension will not be affected.
